2015 has been my year of "stick to your ish girl" mentality. I love blogging and sharing my random thoughts and loves with others on the web. Like many people though, I've experienced my fair share of blogger burnout one too many times.
Last year was pretty inconsistent on this blog. I'd have an idea, write about it, and say...
"Ok, I'll post again next week. Then another one again the week after."
For one, if I wanted to be seen as a resource of anyone's daily reads and random musings, I had to get my act together. Especially if I wanted to be taken more seriously as a blogger for business reasons. How was I ever going to land that partnership with brands like Glossier if I can't even prove I can be committed to my own blog?
Here's how I got that "act- right" in my system. I was able to implement a system for myself. To prepare for my serial blog journey, I would jot down EVERY single thought and idea that would come to mind. I figured many of them would eventually help me create multiple blog topics.
- I made a blogging schedule for photos and posts. I take my awesome photos on Sundays and Mondays. My least busy days of the week. I keep the images nice and simple using these awesome techniques I shared with Brown Girl Bloggers.
- If I don't draft my blogs for the week in advance (one week prior) then I usually draft them the night before I post. I've been sticking to sharing 2-4 posts weekly on Wednesdays Fridays and some Sundays. This varies based in the ideas I have.
You have to have some self-discipline to commit to weekly blogging. I've been doing great at that so far this year. Even when I lack a few ideas. I always think of SOMETHING to share.
- I recently acquired the "responsibility" of being an accountability partner. - lol - it's not a job so relax! I welcomed my time to being that good ol yeehaw to Camille of Jealousy Reigns. If you feel you're lacking the commitment to a blog you actually enjoy, having someone to share ideas or thoughts with can really help out. I'm excited for the things Camille will soon be sharing so check her out!
A major thing I lacked outside of blogging last year was luster-filled ideas. I felt like I was blogging from the Matrix. It was cool sharing reviews and all but I wanted my blog to be even more authentic and transparent. I took those many ideas I wrote down in the beginning of the year and allowed myself to enjoy the process.

I honestly haven't been taking forever to finish a post since doing so. Goodbye 3-hour drafts and hello 45 minutes or less of written purge! The means of me staying consistent and making sure I post weekly lies within holding myself accountable. If you have a goal, what do you expect to do for it to come into fruition? Not being serious or intentional will hinder you every time.
I have a very active 8 month old kid who requires all of my attention throughout the day so if I can stick to consistency on any level - anyone can if they desire too.
HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR BLOG FRESH ON A REGULAR BASIS? IF YOU DON'T, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU CAN DO TO BE MORE PROACTIVE WITH YOUR BLOGGING?
I have been blogging (mostly) off and on since the late 90's and only in the past couple of months have I been really consistent. I enjoy blogging and writing about my life and things that interest me while sharing it with others. I am currently working on planning out posts (by topic) so that I have different things to blog about and I want to stick to a better schedule by posting at least 2 times a week at a minimum. I do a weekly review type of post about what is going on in my life every Friday that I usually work on during the week but I want to offer my readers more than that. Thank you for this gentle reminder :)

I think that's great!! I'm still working out the "order kinks" and hope to have certain topics written and shared in a certain order as well. Right now, I kind of just post what comes to mind and so on. I'll be looking out for more of your posts!
DeleteLately, I've been making sure to blog once a week. But if I'm honest, I could blog more often if I were more organized. I just began getting religious about planning everything blogging-related (pics, content, design, etc.) and I have been doing A LOT of research on coding and such. That being said, there should be more than one post on the blog next week and I hope to keep it up! Your tips will help me with that. Thanks for writing this! :)

I feel ya! Super excited to see the new posts you have planned! Glad I could help!
DeleteSeeing other bloggers post with consistency reminds me to be working just a hard. As I've just started my blog I just like to keep two blog posts ahead, I'll take pictures and make notes of possible content but I discipline myself to set time out on specific days to write the post. I want to give eah post time to live, again - because I've only just started. Reading blogs like your help so much too! :)

Awesome girl!! I'll be checking out your blog more too! I agree with giving your posts time to live! I try my best not to post on a daily basis.
DeleteNeosha! Hey girl, hey! My baby steps are slowly turning into big girl steps. Thank you so much for listening(reading) my ramble of my plans and such. I need to look into setting scheduled tweets as well. I actually need to tweet more. Those social media relationships yield great inspiration from other fellow bloggers *wink wink* I'm looking forward to what's next;)

Heyyyyy!!! I'm really happy for you! I see you getting back into the swing of things nicely! Glad I could be of help as well. Twitter is home of great inspiration from bloggers like us lol - see you on the blog soon!
DeleteThanks for the great advice Neosha! I love the glamorous renovation to your website (very regal color scheme). I have to admit: I only post when the Spirit leads. No schedule yet; however, if the future calls for that, I am willing to submit.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday :)

Thanks so much! Also so glad you're loving the new layout - Regal was exactly what I was going for! I found that my spirit would have me posting once a month lol
DeleteIt's definitely all about planning. This year, I've started the practice of planning everything a month in advance. That includes blog posts, scheduling via hootsuite/facebook, and creating all graphics. It takes the pressure off trying to come up with content at the last minute and creates consistency because everything I post has the same theme for that particular month. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome and YESSSS to this! I try my best to keep doing this in advance as well. Sometimes I'll take photos of something that I MIGHT use in a post. I still have images from last year that I'll be sharing in a future post this year. It really does help with easing the pressure.
DeleteHi I saw you helping/assisting people on themexpose.I have question.I'm using the minimal template with slider but my slider is not showing even after adding featured on the labels tag.please help,my blog

Hi Arti! For that template - that issue usually happens when your bog isn't public - but yours is. Did you alter anything within your HTML? If you need more assistance - feel free to email me.
DeleteI've gone a pretty good job with setting a goal of having two new blog posts for each week. I can happily say that I've stuck with it. I did a lot of brainstorming and it's definitely helped with topics for the year.
ReplyDeleteYou and I are on the same path! Keeping consistent is key, my only goal for blogging this year. I started doing a content report just to keep me on track! Thanks for sharing!!
